Letter to the Federal Government Regarding Support for Small Businesses
The Junction BIA recently sent a letter to the Federal Government asking for Federal Covid supports for small businesses to continue into 2022.
See the letter below.
Dear Arif,
Thank you for your ongoing efforts as the Federal Government and the people of Canada continue to fight the constant battle against Covid-19. We are writing to you on behalf of The Junction BIA, representing over 150 small business members.
We strongly believe that since small businesses have not been fully open for business during 2021, economic recovery will take longer than anticipated. For that reason alone, Federal Covid supports for small businesses needs to continue into 2022.
Please consider the following:
- More than 25% of small businesses are still or have been under Covid restrictions for well more than 50% of 2021.
- Most small businesses are still not earning normal amounts of revenue, and until they are, they should still have access to Federal Covid supports that extend to the end of the year.
- Small businesses that are new or opened during the pandemic need access to supports to ensure they can contribute to economic recovery.
- It should also be considered that support programs should continue until there is a concrete plan for economic recovery.
We want to ensure that small businesses can continue to operate and thrive. They are the backbone of the economy, and they must be provided with a safe and equitable ability to survive.
We thank you for your leadership and support through this challenging time and, like you, want to ensure that small businesses are around to contribute to our anticipated economic recovery.
Respectfully,
Carol Jolly
