Call for Artists

We’re seeking 20 Toronto-based muralists who work with paint to bring storefront windows to life. Muralists will be paired with an animator and a local business to create a collaborative multimedia installation. Final window designs must preserve natural light and storefront visibility, using negative space where needed, with placement approved by the BIA and Window Partner.
Key Deliverable Dates (subject to change)
- June 5 — Application Deadline, 11:59 PM ET
- July 15 — Selected Muralists will be contacted on or before this date
- August 4 — Virtual Workshop hosted by Artivive at 10:00 AM ET
- August 30 — Rendering Draft Due
- September 13 — Final Rendering Due
- October 12–26 — Paint Weeks
- November 30 — Survey Completed
Compensation
$900 CAD + HST, if applicable. This fee includes design, materials, equipment and painting for a mural between 25 and 49 sq. ft. Muralists must submit an invoice upon completion of approved deliverables. Payment will be issued within 30 days of the exhibition opening date via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or PayPal if EFT is not available.

We’re seeking 20 animators to bring storefront windows to life with augmented reality (AR). Each AR animation is paired with a painted mural, creating a dynamic, interactive piece that visitors can experience using the Artivive app and/or browser-based WebAR access, where enabled.
Requirements
- Applications are open to artists aged 18+ (as of the contract start date)
- Submissions are limited to English
- Group submissions by multiple animators or collectives will not be accepted
- The portfolio must include a link to video examples of past work (on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
Selection Process
Artivive will manage the animator open call review process and provide a scored shortlist, including the recommended top 20 animators and 5 backups. The Junction BIA, Artistic Curator, and Jury will review the shortlist and confirm final selections and pairings.
Compensation
$800 CAD + HST, if applicable, for a minimum 20-second looped animation, inclusive of incurred fees for licensed music and/or sound effects where appropriate. Animations must not include voiceover, on-screen text, captions, logos, URLs, social handles, QR codes, or credits. Animators are responsible for securing all required music/sound usage rights and must submit an invoice upon completion of approved deliverables. Payment will be issued within 30 days of the exhibition opening date via EFT or, if EFT is not available, via PayPal.
