Call for Artists 2023
Submissions will reopen May 2024
Toronto’s magical Window Wonderland, presented by Isaan Der Authentic Thai Kitchen, a FREE immersive urban art walk, is returning to the Junction for its fourth consecutive year. From November 24, 2023 – January 31, 2024, the award-winning Window Wonderland exhibition will transform the Junction into an interactive, outdoor gallery featuring unique augmented reality (AR) installations by local and international artists.
The first of its kind for Toronto, Window Wonderland is presented in collaboration with the internationally-renowned AR app, Artivive. Linking classical with digital art, Artivive allows artists to create new dimensions with a digital layer, opening a new world of possibilities. Visitors can see the artists’ creations come to life by pointing their phone cameras at the large-scale artwork displayed on the windows.
Recipient of the 2021 Ontario BIA Association’s Initiative Award, the 2022 International Downtown Association’s Award of Excellence and the 2022 TABIA Events Award!

This open call is for both paint mural and digital animation artists! You will be paired with a local small business to transform a Junction window into a multimedia visual installation. Augmented reality (AR) will allow the animation to be overlaid on top of the window painting, creating the interactive piece – a window mural that comes to life!
Muralists: Toronto-based artists will paint the business window with an exceptional mural. You’ll need to apply through this Google Form.
Animators: Artists will animate the window mural for AR. You must use the Artivive International Open Call.
Note: Artists who work in both paint medium and animation are welcome to apply to be considered for both positions, but you will need to apply through each form separately.
All selected artists will receive a complimentary virtual workshop by Artivive on Tuesday, August 1 (tentatively). The workshop will teach participants about augmented reality and provide tutorials to help users create AR art using their tools.
So that you know, attendance at the workshop is mandatory for all participating artists unless the artist has participated in prior years.
Muralists: All winning muralists will be awarded CAD$850 + HST for their work. It includes the cost of materials for painting a minimum 40 SF window. Fees are paid after the window is completed and contingent on creating a window that works with augmented reality technology. Muralists must submit an invoice for their fees. Please have a look below for the estimated timeline to understand the scope of work required.
Animators: All winning animators will be awarded CAD$750 + HST for their work. In order to qualify for the prize, animators are required to produce a minimum of a 20-second-long animation with sound loops. The awards will be distributed promptly upon the completion of the animation. After the animation has been completed animators must submit an invoice to receive their payment. Please see below for the estimated timeline to understand the scope of work required.
