Toronto’s magical Window Wonderland, presented by Isaan Der Authentic Thai Kitchen, a FREE immersive urban art walk, is returning to the Junction for its third consecutive year. From November 25, 2022 to January 1, 2023, The award-winning Window Wonderland exhibition will transform the Junction into an interactive, outdoor gallery featuring unique augmented reality (AR) installations by local and international artists.
The first of its kind for Toronto, Window Wonderland is presented in collaboration with the internationally-renowned AR app, Artivive. Linking classical with digital art, Artivive allows artists to create new dimensions with a digital layer, opening a new world of possibilities. Visitors can see the artists’ creations come to life by pointing their phone cameras at the large-scale artwork displayed on the windows.
Recipient of the 2021 Ontario BIA Association’s Initiative Award, the 2022 International Downtown Association’s Award of Excellence and the 2022 TABIA Events Award!

Details
This call is for both paint mural artists and digital animation artists! Muralists and animators will be paired with a small business to transform a Junction window into a multi-media visual installation. Augmented Reality will allow the animation to be overlaid on top of the window painting, creating the interactive piece – a window mural that comes to life!
SUBMISSION:
- Murals: Toronto-based mural artists will be tasked with painting the business window with an exceptional mural. You must apply through this Google Form.
- Animators: Animation artists will be tasked with animating the window mural for AR. To apply as an animation artist, you must apply through the Artivive International Open Call.
Note: Artists who work in both paint medium and animation are welcome to apply to be considered for both positions, but you will need to apply through each form separately.
WORKSHOP:
All selected participating artists will receive a complimentary virtual workshop by Artivive on August 11 (tentatively). The workshop will teach participants about augmented reality and provide tutorials to help users create AR art using their tools.
Please note that attendance at the workshop is mandatory for all participating artists.
COMPENSATION:
Muralist: All-inclusive muralist fees will be $750, plus $100 to support the cost of materials – CAD$850 + HST total. These fees cover the cost for painting a minimum 40 sq.ft window. Note: There may be opportunities for more paid work (ex. sidewalk painting, a larger mural) and any additional work will be compensated. Fees are paid out after the window is completed and contingent on creating a window that works with augmented reality technology. Artists need to submit an invoice for their fees. Please see below for the estimated timeline to understand the scope of work required.
Animator: All-inclusive animator fees will be CAD$750 + HST. These fees cover the cost for creating a minimum 20-second long animation with sound that is able to loop. Fees are paid out after the animation is completed and successfully superimposed to a window. Artists must submit an invoice for their fees. Please see below for the estimated timeline to understand the scope of work required.
