Ontario Workplace Naloxone Training Program

St. John Ambulance is a proud program provider for the Ontario Workplace Naloxone Training Program (OWNT). Our role is to support employers in meeting the requirements of the Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA). Through this program we are providing FREE workplace naloxone training for up to two workers and one free nasal spray naloxone kit per workplace location.

Did you know? Naloxone kits have successfully reversed thousands of opioid poisonings across Canada. As of June 1st, 2023, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires naloxone be available in some workplaces, in case a worker has an opioid poisoning/overdose.

  • According to the OHSA, employers must provide a naloxone kit in the workplace when they become aware, or ought reasonably to be aware, of the following scenarios: • There is a risk of a worker opioid overdose.
  • There is a risk that the worker overdoses while in a workplace where they perform work for the employer.
  • The risk is posed by a worker who performs work for the employer.

SJA’s Ontario Workplace Naloxone Training (OWNT) program for Ontario businesses is held in a virtual classroom. It is a 90-minute instructor-led, online course.
