June 2020: Pretty Clean Shop

Pretty Clean Shop

3072 Dundas St W, Toronto (416)- 766 – 9633

Pretty Clean Shop found it’s roots when Miriam Juarez had her first child and became concerned with the products they were using in their house and on their bodies. Miriam moved to the Junction nearly ten years ago and at the time she was in a corporate sales position in the tech industry. After seven years in that position, she felt it was sucking the creativity out of her and she needed a change.

Extensive research went into which products were not only environmentally-conscious and body safe, but also locally sourced and often women-owned. Pretty Clean Shop was opened in 2018 and is itself a proudly female-founded business. Miriam met her first team member through a contact on the “Junction Parent’s Classified” Facebook group. The rest of her team came along through a serendipitous series of encounters, and their visions just clicked. Pretty Clean Shop found it’s home in the Junction as Miriam found that the neighbourhood was incredibly community-driven and that people in the area were ready to accept sustainable products into their lives. This was obviously the case, as the store almost immediately had a core group of regulars.

Pretty Clean Shop has since become a hub for effective products free of toxins as well as functional, practical accessories. While Miriam’s initial idea sprouted from having family in mind, Pretty Clean Shop also appeals to all audiences, including eco-conscious millennials, or those looking for products with convenient and innovative designs. One of the main features of their business model is refillable personal care products like body butter, shampoo, etc. Customers are welcome to bring in their own containers to be filled with products of their choosing with prices based on weight. They also carry products such as laundry strips and haircare bars that accommodate those who have limited storage in their living space.

Pretty Clean Shop has been diligently working on their website so that it will reflect the personal and warm experience a customer receives when they pay the store a visit. They are now cautiously open for walk-ins Tuesday-Sunday 10 am-2 pm and continue to offer contactless curb side pickup now from 2-6 pm. They are closed on Mondays.
