Not Far From The Tree is Toronto’s fruit-picking and sharing project. They connect people who have fruit trees with pickers who harvest the fruit and share it with social agency partners across the city.
Over 1.5 million pounds of fruit grows right here in the city every year. Since 2008, Not Far From Tree Team members have harvested over 250,000 lbs of cherries, serviceberries, apples, apricots, grapes, plums, quince, and more, from yards across Toronto!
The bounty from each fruit pick is split 3 ways: ⅓ is provided to the tree registrant, ⅓ is split amongst the picking volunteers, and ⅓ is delivered via cargo bike to one of their social service agency partners, including food banks, community kitchens, supportive housing programs, and community health centres.
Not Far From The Tree has expanded its borders to Etobicoke (between Royal York, the Gardiner and Dundas) and Scarborough (Birchmount, St. Clair East, the Bluffs) and is looking to connect with tree owners, social agencies, and community fruit pickers in these areas.
