The Sweet Potato
108 Vine Ave, Toronto, ON (416)-762-4848
Before The Sweet Potato, Digs Dorfman ran the High Park Organic Market. The market ran from May to October every weekend. It was warmly received by the community and after multiple successful seasons, The Sweet Potato planted its roots in the Junction as a storefront at Dundas St. W and Pacific Ave.
Already a member of the Junction community, Digs and The Sweet Potato crew were attracted to its tight-knit nature and warmth. While they loved the history of the area, they desired to bring something new to the neighbourhood – creating a sense of community and joy all in relation to food.
The transition from weekend market to a full-fledged grocery store was initially a tough one. The Junction was quickly growing into the destination it is today, and The Sweet Potato was growing along with it. While the sandwich bar and difficult in-store coffee roasting were all part of the charm that drew people to the store, The Sweet Potato almost immediately outgrew all that. The store was redesigned multiple times. In the fall of 2017, they relocated to the gorgeous building on Vine Avenue that the community recognizes today. Filled with a team of artists, musicians, business people, and students, The Sweet Potato is ready to include you in their love of food.
Since the move, The Sweet Potato has been working on their e-commerce site, another step in their mission to be as accommodating as possible, and create the most pleasing shopping experience they can. While the future is up in the air for many of us right now, the staff of The Sweet Potato say they have a few ideas up their sleeve, and the community should stay tuned with their social media for fun ways to connect virtually.
